Testing Requirements

Field Welder

Department: Expanded Product Line (EPL)
Location: Farmington, NM

GENERAL PURPOSE
Facilitate welding projects and repairs primarily on shovels and draglines and related ancillary equipment in and around New Mexico counties and other states.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning, organizing and facilitating jobs as assigned to the welding department including print reading and interpretation. Audit equipment for potential repairs. Trouble shoot jobs and equipment needed to complete jobs. Create and facilitate projects to completion including any related paperwork or service reports. Communicate plans and projects effectively to other employees, training them if necessary. Safely use rigging and lifting equipment. Maintains the highest standards in regard to quality of workmanship.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in special projects as needed. Answer telephone calls, complete service reports and maintain records. Actively participate in and occasionally lead safety meetings. Provide daily progress updates to supervisor and dispatchers.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledgeable in various areas, including gearing, bearings, seals, bushings, and hydraulics.
Must be proficient in layout, fit-up and fabrication.
Possess and maintain certifications in 8000Ni2, II70, Stick and Hardwire.
Understand and utilize tools for set up and layout work.
Be proficient with hand and automatic torches, MIG, TIG, and Brazing, Automatic welding, and rotators.
Familiar with N.D.T. including U.T. and M.T.
Proficient in bore build-up, structural repair, and crack repair.
Demonstrates ability to run sub-arc when required.
Have a demonstrated ability to perform light machining, utilizing drills, taps, etc.
Be proficient in welding and cutting of all types.
Possess a proficient understanding of metallurgy and its application to welding.
Possess appropriate tools per the Welder Tool List.
For the safe and effective performance of the position, must be fluent in English.

EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
Additional technical schooling and/or on the job training, preferred

EXPERIENCE
Four (4) or more years’ experience in the trade
Welding work experience on shovels and draglines preferred

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
Primarily outdoor environments, moderate to loud noise levels
Frequent exposure to all outdoor weather conditions and rough and uneven terrain
Frequent exposure to substances, including/not limited to: industrial chemicals, hydraulic fluid, grease, oil, dust, dirt and other elements in the outdoor work environment
Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing and performing overhead work
Frequent use of ladders and steps for accessing equipment.
Frequent lifting up to 50lbs with or without assistance.
Frequent use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, manipulating tools/objects, writing, etc.
Exposure to dangerous environments, including mine sites and construction sites required.
Sitting in and potentially driving a vehicle for long periods.
Overtime, varying schedules, and requires  travel and frequent overnight stays.
