Testing Requirements

Field Machinist - Wyoming

Department: Expanded Product Line (EPL)
Location: State of Wyoming, WY

LOCATION

Based out of Gillette, WY

GENERAL PURPOSE

Facilitate machining projects and repairs primarily on shovels and draglines and related ancillary equipment in and around Campbell County, other Wyoming counties, and other states.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning, organizing and facilitating jobs as assigned to the machinist shop including print reading and interpretation. Audit equipment for potential repairs. Trouble shoot jobs and equipment needed to complete jobs. Utilize knowledge of trigonometry, geometry and metric conversion to complete calculations encountered on different jobs. Create and facilitate projects to completion including any related paperwork or service reports. Communicate plans and projects effectively to other employees, training them if necessary. Safely use rigging and lifting equipment.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES 

Assist in special projects as needed. Answer telephone calls, complete service reports and maintain records. Actively participate in and occasionally lead safety meetings. Provide daily progress updates to supervisor and dispatchers.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS  KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY  

Knowledgeable in various areas, including gearing, bearings, seals, bushings, and hydraulics. Must be able to effectively use stationary and portable boring equipment and machine tools as well as multiple other types of tooling to meet specific job needs.  Understand and utilize tools for set up and layout work. Must be capable of aligning gear cases and motors as assigned. Be proficient in welding and cutting of all types. Possess a proficient understanding of metallurgy and its application to machining. Be capable of heat treating parts as required. Be proficient in testing the hardness of materials. Demonstrate the ability to use N.D.T (Magnetic particle and die penetrant). Be trained in leveling and use of Brunson equipment, and balancing components and have a general understanding of mechanical assemblies. Possess appropriate tools per the Machinist Tool List

EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING  

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent -   Additional technical schooling or on the job maintenance planning training, preferred

EXPERIENCE 

Five (5) or more years’ experience in the trade.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES 

Be willing to be exposed to dirt, grease, dust, noise and other elements within the work environment -   Ability to climb equipment steps and ladders -   Travel is required with extended overnight stays -   Lift and carry up to no more than 50 pounds -   Stand 8 to 12 hours a day -   Devote drive time as necessary to meet on site requirements
